BREEDING OF SOUTHERN CROSS WINNER EVER HOPING

The Always B Miki gelding Ever Hoping, the season’s latest two-year-old classic winner, in beating a useful field in the $50,000 Southern Cross, has a good deal in his favour on the score of blood.

Apart from being by Always B Miki, and one of his first crop, Ever Hoping is out of the Bettor’s Delight mare Bettor Believe It 1:53.8 ($139,632), a half-sister to the top Tasmanian pacer and dual Easter Cup winner Fleet 1:58 ($347,233), being out of New York Maid, by New York Motoring from the Lordship mare Romano, who founded a very successful branch of the Dolly (by Young Irvington) family.

It includes Derby winners in Roman Gladiator and Im Mark Antony, Roman Conqueror (1:50.8), Mapua Legend (NZ Sapling), Assassinator (WA Easter Cup), Smart Major (NZ Winter Cup), Iamajoyride and others.

Ever Hoping is the first produce of Bettor Believe It to race. He was bred by Ray, Anne and Neil Grubb, who knocked him down for $32,500 at the APG Sydney sale in 2020.

STAR THREE-YEAR-OLD BY LINCOLN ROYAL

Tuppence, who won the $50,000 Southern Cross Final at Globe Derby Park – Sanur Beach and Artillery filled the placings behind him – is a three-year-old expected to go on and develop top ranking form.

Tuppence, who has now won seven races, is a gelding by the Mach Three horse Lincoln Royal, who stood his early seasons at the stud in NZ and has been located in Tasmania while at the stud in Australia.

Lincoln Royal has enjoyed a fair measure of success in both NZ and Australia. His stock include the classy NSW pacer Bundoran, a heat winner at the Inter Dominion and a strong local hope in the $500,000 Final at Menangle.

Tuppence is out of Star Crossed (1:56.2), by Art Major from a dual Southern Cross winner in Endeared 1:56.7 ($244,650), by Albert Albert from Tuapeka Reign, by Vance Hanover and tracing to the imported mare Estella Amos, founded of one of Australasia’s greatest classic winning families.

Endeared was the dam of a useful pacer in The Dapper Don 1:55.5 ($101,779), a Group 1 winning trotter in Enrolled 1:59 ($119,829) and the two-year-old filly Flirting, who finished third in the Southern Cross. Holla (1:59.1), a half-sister to Endeared and a dual Southern Cross finalist, is the dam of promising youngster Our Holla Star.
