Nineteen -year-old Corey Johnson drove his one hundredth winner when the Luke O’Neil trained Zigzagzoo led from start to finish in the final event at Globe Derby.(When??)
Johnson, who commenced driving in the 2018/19 season, drove 5 winners from 66 drives in his freshman season.
2019/20 season his stats read 38 wins from 337 drives, last season 31 wins from 307 drives.
This year after five full months, Johnson has notched up 26 wins, after a double on the last night of May at Port Pirie with three-year-old filly Coco Mia and Fumia Reactor took him one win away from the century.
Johnson first winner was on one of South Australia’s biggest race night, The Allwood, back in 2019, on board Emerging Art.
“Jaccka Ted would be one of the best horses I have driven” Johnson said, “but horses like Yankee Clipper and The Octagon are some of the most consistent pacers I have driven” he added.
Johnson won 8 races on Yankee Clipper and 5 on The Octagon.
Johnson recently took out the SA BOTRA Most Improved Junior Driver award for the 2021 season, announced at The Horse of the Year awards night on May 20.
