Group 1 glory for SA owners.

Local South Australian owners Jake Webster, Aaron Bain, Rob Curnow and a syndicate put together by Rocky Butterworth are this morning Group 1 winning owners with Spirit Of St Louis.

Following on from victories in the Group 2 Bendigo and Shepparton Cups, the son of Sweet Lou completed the Country Cups hat-trick winning the $110,000 Ballarat Cup on Saturday night.

Webster, and business partner Jamie Durnberger-Smith, who trade as Summit Bloodstock, purchased Spirit Of St Louis from one of New Zealand’s biggest owners Trevor Casey, who incidentally kept a share in the Now Group 1 winner after the gelding had 19 Kiwi starts for 8 wins.

Spirit Of St Louis chased home New Zealand Cup Winner Copy That on a couple of occasions at Alexander Park before heading to Australia.

Since being transferred to Belinda McCarthy’s yard, the gelding has amassed $302,297 along with the three Victorian Country Cups.

Spirit Of St Louis also won a heat of the Interdominion in December last year, and I’m sure the fun is not over yet!
